Virtual Machine Installation



If you are using a new computer equipped with the Windows operating system, you may not have Virtual Machine installed and so some training courses may appears only as a grey box. Persons who experience a problem should go to the following link and download the Sun Microsystems version of Java Virtual Machine.

Download and Install
  1. Click on the Download Java Virtual Machine link on the Software page (or the link above).
  2. Click Download next to Windows (Offline Installation).
    The File Download dialog box appears.
  3. Choose the folder location.
    4. (Save the file to a known location on your computer, for example, to your desktop).
  4. Click Save.
    The Save As dialog box appears.
    If you have previously downloaded this version of JRE, you may be prompted:
    File jre-1_5_0_02-windows-i586-p.exe already exists. Do you want to replace it?
  5. Click Yes to replace.
  6. Close all applications including the browser.
  7. Double-click on the saved file icon to start the installation process.


The installer "unpacks" the files needed to continue. A dialog box tracks this process, which takes less than a minute. After briefly displaying a logo splash screen, the installer presents the license agreement.

After reading the agreement, click the I accept the terms in the license agreement button to accept its terms and click Next to continue with the installation.

The installer then displays a Setup Type screen that allows you to choose either a typical or custom setup. We recommend that you choose the Typical option (the default selection) unless you are an advanced user who wants more precise control over the components that will be installed.

After ensuring that the Typical setup is selected, click the Next button to continue with the installation.

Now that you have given the installer all of the information it needs to proceed, progress boxes track the installation process.

A few brief dialogs confirm the last steps of the installation process, and a concluding message appears with the confirmation "Installation Completed OK."


Enable and Configure
Once the installation is complete, ensure that the JRE is enabled and configured properly for applets and applications. For instructions to enable the JRE for the browser, such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla, or Netscape, go to:
